EXPERIENTIAL ACTIVITY: 4TH-GRADE STUDENTS EXPLORE DUONG LAM ANCIENT VILLAGE – EMBRACING THE CULTURAL BEAUTY OF THE XU DOAI REGION

News Wednesday, 14/10/2026

This morning, our 4th-grade students embarked on an experiential trip to Duong Lam Ancient Village (Son Tay, Hanoi)—a place that preserves the distinctive architectural styles, customs, and traditional way of life of Northern Vietnamese villages.

Here, the students visited the mausoleum of Ngo Quyen and the temple of Phung Hung, learning about historical figures associated with the Xu Doai region. They also explored the ancient village landscape, featuring the communal house, ancient houses, traditional water wells, and cultural landmarks. Hearing these stories and observing the historical sites firsthand brought History and Geography to life, making them much more engaging and relatable.

During the activity, the students learned about local history and architecture, while also interacting with locals to discover how to make specialty dishes of Duong Lam, such as cassava cakes (bánh sắn), floating rice cakes (bánh trôi), and more. Through these hands-on experiences, students had the opportunity to practice observation, memory retention, cooperation, and sharing. This helped them gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the values around them, foster pride in their national cultural heritage, and awaken a sense of respect and preservation in each child.

At Nguyen Sieu Primary School, learning goes beyond the classroom, expanding through real-world exploratory journeys. The school believes that every experiential trip is an opportunity for students to learn from reality, understand their roots, and visit the places written in their textbooks—allowing them to truly feel and apply the principle of "learning paired with practice"!
