GRADE 2 EXPLORES FIRE SAFETY, FIREFIGHTING AND RESCUE SKILLS

News Friday, 21/08/2026

On 20 and 21 August 2026, Year 2 pupils from Nguyen Sieu Primary School took part in an experiential learning visit to Firefighting and Rescue Unit No. 24, where they had the opportunity to develop practical knowledge and essential safety skills for everyday life.

Under the guidance of firefighters and rescue officers, the pupils learned to recognise common fire hazards, became familiar with basic firefighting equipment, and took part in a range of hands-on activities, including using a controlled descent rope, practising targeted water spraying, moving through a “smoke house”, using a fire extinguisher, and developing safe evacuation skills. They also explored the specialised equipment carried on a fire engine and had the exciting opportunity to ride around the unit in the vehicle.

Through these practical activities, pupils not only developed their observation and problem-solving skills and learned how to remain calm in an emergency, but also strengthened their sense of discipline, responsibility and teamwork. The experience also helped them understand more about the important work of firefighters and rescue officers, fostering greater respect and appreciation for those who are always ready to protect the community.

At Nguyen Sieu Primary School, experiential learning is always highly valued as a way to equip pupils with essential life skills, helping them respond appropriately and become more confident when faced with unexpected situations. Each lesson learned today will become part of the valuable foundation that supports them as they grow in confidence and maturity.
